Strawberry Basil Ice Cream Topping

The basil and balsamic adds a twist to traditional strawberry topping. The basil is fresh and herbaceous like mint, it also freshens breath like mint too.


1 1/4 cups sugar
2 1/2 tablespoons honey
1 1/4 cups balsamic vinegar
1 cup fresh basil leaves, torn into small pieces
10 cups strawberries, stems removed and halved
1 pint vanilla ice cream


1. In a large mixing bowl stir together the sugar, honey and balsamic.
2. Toss in the strawberries and basil.
3. Refrigerate for 10 minutes or up to 2 hours.
4. Place 1 cup of the mixture into the bottom of a bowl and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
5. Garnish with a sprig of fresh basil.
